Welcome to our Nursery - We are OPEN January 2026

Welcome to St Stephen’s Nursery — a warm, nurturing and engaging early years environment where our youngest learners begin their school journey with confidence, curiosity and joy. Our nursery is part of St Stephen’s Primary School and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring that every child receives high‑quality early education and care.

Our Nursery Team

Your child will be supported by a dedicated, experienced and caring team who work closely together to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment.

  • Miss Chloe – Nursery Senior (EYFS Qualified)
  • Miss Katie – Nursery Practitioner (Level 3)
  • Miss Alicia – Nursery Practitioner (Level 2)

Our Nursery Environment

Our nursery is designed to be a calm, welcoming and inspiring space where children can explore, imagine and grow. We offer:

  • A bright, well‑resourced indoor classroom
  • A secure outdoor learning area used daily in all seasons
  • Opportunities for creative play, early literacy and maths, construction, role play, small‑world exploration and sensory experiences
  • A cozy reading area to foster a love of books
  • Access to wider school facilities where appropriate

We believe children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful interactions — and our environment reflects this.

Our Curriculum

We follow the EYFS Framework, focusing on the seven areas of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Children learn through a balance of child‑initiated play and carefully planned adult‑led activities. We observe children closely, celebrate their achievements and plan next steps that support their individual development.

A Typical Day in Nursery

While every day is different, a typical session includes:

  • Free‑flow play indoors and outdoors
  • Small‑group learning time
  • Story sessions and singing
  • Snack time and social interaction
  • Physical play and outdoor exploration
  • Opportunities for creativity, problem‑solving and imaginative play

Our routines help children feel secure while still allowing plenty of time for exploration and discovery.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe that strong relationships with families are essential. We work closely with parents through:

  • Daily communication
  • Learning updates and observations
  • Workshops and events
  • Support with transitions into Reception

Your child’s voice and your family’s input are central to our approach.

Supporting Children with SEND

We are an inclusive setting and welcome children with a wide range of needs. Our nursery team works closely with the school SENCo to:

  • Identify needs early
  • Provide targeted support
  • Work with external agencies where appropriate
  • Ensure every child can access the curriculum

We are committed to ensuring all children thrive.

St Stephen’s Primary School is committed to keeping every child safe. Our nursery follows the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, and all staff receive regular safeguarding and first‑aid training.
